Wow, no wonder the Oberoi Udaivilas is rated the best hotel in Asia. The CEO says “A guest staying with us placed a Ganesha statue on her bedside table. When she returned to the hotel in the evening, she noticed that the housekeeping staff had laid a folded fabric under the statue, put flowers and also lighted some incense sticks. Oberoi Intercontinental (ICON as we used to call it then), was the first in New Delhi and of course chains in Simla (Oberoi Cecli) etc were opened where they bought an existing hotel and added the Oberoi name and standard to them. There was no International chain then, like today's Holiday Inn or Marriott in India. So Oberoi was the quality place to stay if you could afford it. Most people could not. As an NRI, I was fortunate enough to stay in an Oberoi-owned hotel in Agra in 2004 and can only sing their praise. Later, my husband went on a trip to India with his Italian-American boss and they stayed at the Oberoi in Bombay and in New Delhi. His boss said that he ate the best Italian food there. Oberoi ensures the best within their hotels - restaurants, boutiques or spas. Oberoi hotels are expensive, no doubt. But they remain quality hotels who do not compromise their standards.
Good to know that Oberoi is still maintaining high standard.
