I have been working for 8 years now..I have a BS and an MS ...and I know the industry I want to be in..for me being in the right industry is very important..all job functions/skills are transferable so finding the right "community" to work in makes or breaks the career deal..in my opinion..so I did a lot of research..completed various assessments...met people for informational meetings..I have done this year after year and I learnt a lot of various industries and job functions..I also used mind maps to layout my career strategy..it looks like a decision tree and then I have plan A, B, C, etc..and I also have trigger events, which are basically events, which "trigger" appropriate actions in my career path..I also read many industry and career coaching journals, newsletters and blogs to keep myself upto date with the changing trends in the industry and work force demands and assessment metrics..using this info I can plan what would be the appropriate development plan for me for the appropriate next step..I know where I want to be..but I also believe there are many paths to get there..so the decision tree shows me the options..and this decision tree evolves as I learn more..I hope this makes sense...feel free to ask questions..

Very interesting question! Would love to know what the research says. My gut says one or two hours of homework is good for children.

Yes Anil .....but I believe in educating the kids when they are mentally in process of education, that is more in School...giving the homework more than 20-30 mins at home would not give the results we want, as they r more in mode of out of school. I have many parents for counselling kids unruly behavior counselling, especially at the time of studying. I too want my kids to sit for an hour or so at home, but i do not make my kid sit for long hours and i play the games relating to the topic and fair enough she has received presidents academic excellence award for 2011 .:)..yay..

I believe they should as psychological researches have proved that EQ IS a predominant of a person's success than his IQ. Although I've been training EI to corporates but recently Parents are also becoming aware of this trait as a success factor for their kids.

I fully agree with you. EQ helps you to get through life whereas IQ only helps you to get through school. Could you share with us few basic steps to raise someone's EQ?

Thanks Anil ......all steps cannot be discussed over here (i wish i could) but one important step is to Heed the physical manifestations. Before our amygdala hijacks our thinking brain, our body gives us plenty of signals: a clenched jaw, increased heart rate, a tightening in the vocal cords, feeling flush in the face or other similar reactions. These are alarm bells that we should not tune out. They are our first opportunity to intervene and prevent the emotion from escalating.

The indian education system is based on mainly memorizing everything rather then understanding what one is learning. That is why most of the students can recite the formulas backwards but have no pratical idea about it. Though i feel things are changing and maybe in long run we will see more schools on the list.
