We were very excited when Masala Kitchen first opened in Morganville because of its proximity to our home.
Our impression after our first visit there was that the ambiance was nice, the food was mediocre. The presentation was superior to the food quality. Yet we felt that overall it was a place we could patronize.

A few months ago we ordered take out from Masala Kitchen. Sadly, this time we were quite disappointed. The food quality seems to have gone down. The naan was soggy and very oily. My son found a piece of hair in his dish.

Nice ambiance and the location is equally good with plenty of parking in the plaza as most of the nearby stores are closed. So, once you come here you are away from any kind of hustle and bustle. The bad part about this restaurant is that they don't get any foot traffic and also it looks like they are not getting any word-of-mouth traffic.

The presentation of their food is very good and their seating area has 4 sections. Each section can accommodate about 15-25 people but the way these sections are divided is little awkward.

I will say that their food quality is OK. They had a chaat station where you can prepare your own plate of mixed chaat. I took pani puri and papri chaat from the chaat station. The taste of the chaat was kind of mild for my taste. Most probably they are catering to the local crowd and their clientele is not typical south Asian Americans . My expectation was that chaat will be chaat and no one should westernize the taste of chaat but then I have been wrong before. My assumption is that the owner of the restaurant must have done some market research and accordingly changed the authentic Indian taste of their food so that they can cater to the local crowd.

What I liked most in this restaurant was their carrot halwa. It was really good. You must try it once when you go there.

My family and I threw my mom a small, intimate birthday party for 75 people at Masala Kitchen and it was a great success. The manager (Nadir) gave us first class service and the food was delicious. Masala Kitchen makes incredible dishes and I highly recommend ordering the pani puri, papdi chat, shrimp and samosas when you visit. The service and atmosphere are excellent and the food is amazing. While the food is a little pricey, it's worth the experience!
