Social Roots is an online service that
helps people find and share information on businesses and events all
over the world. We achieve this by providing our registered members
the functionality to both publish and interact with content
on our site. For example, users can write reviews, add business listings,
add event listings, post comments to event pages, write to the public feed,
etc. Social Roots is designed to be an open network, and we encourage you
to provide only the information that you feel comfortable disclosing to a
public audience.
By using Social Roots, you permit the
collection and use of your personal information as outlined below in
our Privacy Policy. You should visit this page periodically to review
any changes to the Privacy Policy.
Information We Collect:
Information Collected Upon Registration - When you create an account, you provide some personal information, such as your full name, email address, location, gender type, generation and age group. We use your name to provide your account name (first name, last initial). Your email and last name are never disclosed anywhere. Your location and account name are disclosed whenever you contribute Public Site Content (see below) and on your user profile page. For some information, such as age group, you may opt to not show this on your user profile page.
Additional Profile Information - After registering, you can provide additional information about yourself, such as your birthday date, relationship status, political views, connection to India, education and professional information, and favorites (movies, tv shows, etc.). From your user profile page you can also upload personal photo albums. This information is optional and will appear on your user profile page, visible to everyone.
Public Site Content - As a registered member, you can publish and interact with content on our site. This includes writing reviews, adding business listings, adding event listings, indicating your status on an event page (attending or interested), commenting on an event page, uploading photos (to businesses, events or cities), voting on those photos, and writing a status update. These actions are viewable to everyone through our site pages and through our public feed (known as "Desi Feed").
Messaging - At the time of writing a review, we solicit your recommendations to the business owner of the business you are reviewing. We do not display this information publicly on the site, but may display such information to a business owner upon request.
Inviting Friends - When you send invites to your friends using our features, we will retain these email addresses in our system for our records.
Location Data - You provide your location data at the time of registration. We store this in addition to tracking and analyzing your location data that is transmitted to us based upon your IP Address. The location data that you provide is viewable to everyone. Your location based upon your IP Address is for our records only.
Third-Party Services - Social Roots uses VisiStat to help us understand and analyze our service offerings. Using this service, we collect such information as IP Address, user name (if the user is registered) location at the time of visit, date and time of visit, pages visited, time spent on pages visited, click patterns, requested URL and referring URLs.
Cookies - We send cookies (small pieces of data that we store for an extended period of time on your computer or mobile device) to your computer in order to uniquely identify your browser and enhance your user experience. For example, we use them to remember your login and password information so that you can easily log in the next time you visit Social Roots. We also use them to confirm that you are, indeed, logged into Social Roots or whether you are visiting the site for the first time.
Feedback - we store and analyze all feedback that you leave to us via the information you provide on an error page or direct emails to Social Roots management.
Call Logs - We retain calling information when a user takes part in our free minutes promotion. We keep track of the time you place a call, the originating number, the destination number and the duration of the call. We use this information to keep track of minutes used as well as for security and legal reasons. Information collected from you is only used to complete and support your use of our website and services and to comply with any requirements of law. Therefore, in some cases, in order to provide you with our services, we may be required to supply your personally identifiable information to our service providers. Otherwise, Social Roots does not rent, sell or share personally identifiable information it collects about you or phone numbers it observes in conjunction with use of your account to or with third parties. Social Roots may disclose personally identifiable information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary.
How We Use Your Information:
Site
Access & General Management - By providing us with your registration
information such as email address and location, we can offer you the full
service of our site by allowing you to publish and interact with content.
Whenever you contribute content, we display your account name and (often)
your location information. We also display your location information on the
City Spotlight page if you are from that specific city (as indicated at the
time of registration). For unregistered users, we use your location information
to provide a more customized experience. For both unregistered and registered
users, we track and analyze aggregate data on your usage of our features and
services in order to improve them. Finally, we will use any information you have
provided us in order to enforce our terms of service.
Contact
- we will use your information to respond to and investigate user inquiries,
misconduct, violation of our terms of service, and to send announcements and
updates
Personalized Advertising
- We may share non-personally identifiable information about users and user
behaviors in the aggregate to advertisers in order to provide highly personalized
advertising. For example, an advertiser may want to display ads to users in the
18-28 age group range. If you are in this age range, we will display this ad to
you, but the advertiser will not be aware of your identity as it will only have
access to aggregate data.
How You Can Change Your Information:
We give you the tools to edit your account information,
profile information, change your password, manage your friends and alter your
privacy settings. You will have the ability to Delete and Edit certain public
content, such as Reviews. We advise that you please be careful before registering
or publishing and interacting with content. If any of these areas are still a
cause for concern, you can email us at management@socialroots.com from the email which you registered your account.
If you would like to deactivate your account, the subject line should
read "[Your Full Name] - Closing Account". If you would like to
delete content, then the subject line should read "[Your Full Name] - Delete Content" and in the message please provide more details
as to which content you provided that you would like to remove.

Changes To This Policy:
We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. The most current version of the policy will govern our use of your information and will always be located here. By continuing to access or use the Services after those changes become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Privacy Policy.
